SETTING UP CMOS:Tips on setting up CMOS for PC or Laptop and troubleshooting hard disk problem...

Have you ever wondered WHAT IS CMOS? well, for a computer it stands for Complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor which is a technology for constructing integrated circuits or it simply means
a special battery which stores information about your desktop and laptop computer , such as the date and time, when the machine is powered off.

Normally the Laptop battery re-charges itself whenever the computer is turned on but if it stops working or becomes damaged or your computer unable to load Windows XP operating system, it discovers any physical corruption as of hard drive, CMOS displays an error message. Such error messages are caused during operating system bootup and result as inaccessibility of your data stored in the system viz. hard drive. In such situations, you need to restore your data from an updated backup. However, if you have not created any backup or the backup fails to restore the required data, then you need to opt for a Hard Drive Recovery services. Consider a practical example, where you encounter the below error message when you attempt to boot a Windows XP based laptop: "Hard disk Configuration Error" You get stuck in repetitive loop of the above error message every time you attempt to boot your computer.

In addition, you become unable to access your critical data files. the reasons for the occurrence of above error message are: Cables connected to the hard drive are loose Physical damage of the laptop hard drive due to electrostatic shocks, head crash, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) board failure and more. Resolution: To resolve the above error and access your data, you need to firstly switch off your laptop. If you are an experienced user or have opened your laptop before, then reset all cables connected to the laptop hard drive.

However, if you still encounter the same error message, it means that the laptop hard drive may have been physically damaged. To successfully recover and restore your lost data from physically damaged hard drive, you need the assistance of Laptop Data Recovery services. These services are provided by Laptop Hard Drive Recovery companies with there advanced recovery centric infrastructure and workforce. They firstly examine the affected hard drives for amount of data that can be recovered. The recovery service is performed by experienced Laptop Hard Disk Recovery professionals under the sterile lab environments of Clean Rooms. Hard drives are thoroughly scrutinized, repaired, cloned and fixed under the controlled environment of Clean Rooms. They are free from environmental factors like dust, humidity, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge), excessive temperature, inappropriate pressure, incorrect air-flow etc.

Below are some basics CMOS settings and descriptions

System time
Real-time clock can also be set with DOS TIME command

System date
Real-time clock can also be set with DOS DATE command

Primary master,Primary slave,Secondary master,Secondary slave
  • ID string from the IDE drive is displayed when Bios sees the drive present. You cannot make an entry for this setting.  The system board has two built-in IDE interfaces, each supporting two IDE devices, one master and one slave, sharing a data cable. Master and slave setting are deterimined by jumpers on the drives.
  • Most likely, the primary interface is set to IRQ 14and I/O address1F0, and the secondary interface is set to IRQ15 and I/O adress170. Resources are shared by the two drivers on the interface.

Sound:
Option:Enabled, Disable
  • If the speaker does not work, verify that this option is enabled.
Interrupt:
Options: Auto,IRQ3,IRQ4

Base I/O address:
Options:Auto,3F8,2F8,3E8,2E8

Fixed disk boot sector
Options:Normal, Write-protect,(default-Normal)
  • Write-protect to protect the boot sector against a virus, but you must remove the protection when installing a OS of for software that must  write to the boot sector
Power management option
  • You can set all power management options to disabled and allow Windows 9x to handle power management.

Resume time Can be set to any time

Resume date Can be set to any date from 1981 from 2099

Boot sequence Options:A, C; A, CDROM,C; CDROM,C, A; D, A; E, A; F, A; C only; ZIP, C;                           C,A

  • This option determines where the system looks to find an OS.

USB device Options: Auto,IRQ5,IRG9,IRQ10,IRQ11

IRQ preference Specifies IRQ assignment to a USB device.
  • Use Auto unless you are trying to resolve a resource conflict.
